Yo, F.O.B.

FOB

Haters can hate, this is a fine pop-punk album from 03.
I've been busy trying to start up portrait/wedding photography (along with me regular job) which is why the beat has become far less desk and door.

Here is a slight taste of that:

I will attempt to get back to this when I can.

Don't call it a come back.

I know I shouldn't be surprised by any of this yet somehow, I am. Even the 'theme' for this year was horrible (backlot at paramount studios). Most of the acts were just uninspired to say the least.

Even more surprising perhaps is that I did find some moments that I enjoyed watching, mainly Travis Barker and the brief clips we heard of the mixes he was drumming to. Tonights whole show should just have been Travis on drums. Despite the obvious lip syncing which one must expect from the Vma's, Christina Aguilera's number was enjoyable to listen to.

As of my typing right this second, I haven't seen the entire show, just up until Paramore's performance (whom I am no ashamed to say I love). So it is here I will rest my keyboard and I will come back to finish. So, here is a type of play by play as I take in the rest of the 2008 VMA's.

*watching new artist part.
all of these guys look like they belong in 4 different band. sad because I have to wait 33min for Kayne. hm, wonder if youtube has it yet.

*LL Cool J is...making music?
All the Kayne vma vids have already been taken off YouTube :(

*Paris Hilton is on stage.
Is this Ready Set Go singing band really this big?

*...
What a tease, 1 min of Lupe giving a better show than everyone else so far. From a much smaller stage with of course, Travis and that DJ...hopefully I will catch his name. How are the awards won anyway? Do people go online and vote and then it gets rigid? Or is it just Rigid from the start?

*Drake and Josh are on stage
Who are Drake and Josh? Hey look at that, Kid Rock is back. Ha, awesome, 'This is all real, no lip syncing'. Ok, given it's been 8 or so years since I last heard kid rock, but when did he turn southern rock/country-ish? Eh, still not my cup of tea. Le Gasp! Someone got Lil' Wayne in my Kid Rock! They do look like they are having tons of fun though.

*About to give you video of the year
ajkshdfk The Jonas Brothers even have a shot at this? My brain is about to expl...THE PUSSYCAT DOLLS. WHATSDLFSLKJLFHH. Also, Russel Brandt is insane.

*FINALLY KAYNE.
This song is killer so far. Yep, Kayne > Mtv.

All in all, I miss the year Sarah Silverman hosted it and just mocked it the whole time. 2008 Vma's, huge waste of time.

I think my readership is like 5 or 6 people who like the random mp3 I throw up, BUT, if you are so inclined, tell me some videos you think people should know about and I will post them for those 5 other people to look at.

Oh yay, a post show. Sigh.

The Twelves

Photobucket

You feel that? No you say? ...hmmm? There it is right. Yes, thats your booty a moving with such a slow yet steady pace that it just might take off toward the moon.

That is really the best way I can describe this Electronic Duo from Brazil. If thats not enough for you...well they are playing a show with Justice. Who doesn't like Justice? I fully expect these guys to blast off on a rocket ship.

Follow this link and you can download two fantastic tracks as well as jam to some sweet remixes.

United Nations

Photobucket

Wiki:
United Nations is a power violence[citation needed] project that was started in early 2007 by Daryl Palumbo of the American bands Glassjaw and Head Automatica and Geoff Rickly, the singer/lyricist of the band Thursday. Other artists involved in the project possibly include Christopher "Chree" Conger, former drummer of The Number 12 Looks Like You, the bassist "Cooper" of Made Out of Babies, and an unnamed member of The Lovekill. In a recent interview with Converge, it was revealed that Ben Koller would also be apart of this project. Recently in an interview Geoff Rickly stated that the band would release a 7" with Deathwish inc. and full length on Eyeball Records. The band has set a release date for the self-titled album on September 9, 2008.

Ok, take a breath. Their album is on myspace for streaming pleasure and I thought you would like to know.

It's not what you think. I hope your brain has a do not explode feature or else brain matter will fly.

The Faint, Norma Jean, Hawthorne Heights

Super Tuesday happened today. 8/5/08 has provided the world with the new Faint album Fascination, new Norma Jean album Vs The Anti Mother, and the new Hawthorne Heights Album Fragile Future.

Let us discuss in order of importance to me.

/cough
NEW FAINT CD EVERYONE THIS IS THE BIGGEST THING SINCE HDDVD (LAWL). But no really now, you know all those bands you listen to today? Yes you with your high top nikes and multi colored shirts you were for the hell of it. Back in the good old days before crap like Metro Station existed, there was (is) a band called The Faint. This band dare me say it, is one of the main reasons the current wave of electronic/rockish music is so big right now. They were writing songs about erections before you hit puberty. Point is, they (The Faint) now have a new album out that forcefully reminds all of us that they do what they do the best. It feel darker yet again much like Dance Macabre yet it has the hooks of Wet From Birth. Ladies and Gentlemen, this is how you do things. Now, go Get Seduced.

A lot of bands these days 'scream', this isn't a new thing I am aware, but there is something about a lot of these new 'screaming' bands that just doesn't sit right. Thankfully one of our saviors is here in the new Norma Jean album, Norma Jean vs The Anti-Mother. Let me just say before anything else that there is a track on this album called Surrender Your Sons... that has a 100% chance of being co-written by one of my all time favorite frontmen, Chino from the oh so great band The Deftones. Moving on then, Anti-Mother is in a bit of an odd place. On one hand it doesn't really expand upon their last album (greatest.release.ever.) yet somehow it doesn't fall back on to O'God The Aftermath ether. Like the past two releases, traces of Bless the Martyr Kiss The Child are still present but something IS different about Anti-Mother. I've only had a chance to listen to it 4 times through so I've yet to have a sure finger to put on what the different thing is. I do know from reading the breading ground that is the ap.net forums that fans of all taste are confused as if they like it or not. I can not safely say that if you like Norma Jean you will like this and I can't say the opposite of that ether. What I can say however is ignore your first impression of Anti-Mother and listen to it more times regardless, there is something going on here and we need to find out what it is, because I am positive it's worth it.

Hawthorne Heights. Go ahead, curse under your breath about how I could like this band, press the back button on your browser, do what you need to do to 'stay cool'. This band gets so much crap for some reason that is beyond me. I suppose it could be the 13 year olds that populate some of their fan base. Maybe it's because they are still on the hype train that is Victory Records? Or maybe it's because they have for three releases provided many ear drums with solid songs that are easy to sing a long to? Haters can get out of here and keep your hordes of underground bands that stay unheard for good reason. Their newest, Fragile Future, is the first Hawthorne Heights album after the passing of guitarist Casey Calvert and the band has made something that I am sure would make him proud. Easily they best record they have made so far and something that is easily accessible to fans and new comers alike.

Enough of this, I have 2 hours before I leave to play soccer and I want to listen to all of these back to back 235265 times.

In honor of how fantastic today is, I will give you all a song from the new and then a song from the rather old. Progression my friends, it's a sweet tea that can be found all over. (all of this including fancy pictures is coming when i get done playing soccer. by the time i get back i expect you all to own these three cds)

U.N.K.L.E.

Unkle=incredible. From Psyence Fiction, to Never, Never, Land and most recently War Stories, Unkle has given the world the DJ answer to bands like Explosions in the Sky. Anyone song can be listened to apart from the rest and be magical, or together with the whole album and be remarkable.

I present to you a song off each major release that I know of. For Psyence Fiction I could do the obvious and post Rabbit In Your Headlights, instead I will go for one of my personal favorites, Celestial Annihilation. Coolest. Song. Name. Ever. I remember buying this CD and a sticker on the front said, 'DJ Shadow with vocals!'. I was all, who the hell is DJ Shadow? Oh ye of little knowledge.

Next we have Never, Never, Land which saw the departure of DJ Shadow for I believe James Lavelle (or maybe Lavelle was already in Unkle...wiki it if you want to know more than I). A more ambient/soundtrack style was found here, but the since of urgency in all the songs was not lost. And because I can't decide between Reign and Eye For An Eye, you get both! (casual applause goes here)

Lastly we have War Stories. Yes, that is an epic album title. The music on the album does not disappoint. Food for though, when you go out looking to buy this album (which you will) be on the look out for the special 2 disc edition which is in a slick slipcase. Best part about however is the 2nd disc is the album with all the vocals stripped away. hothtoththohtoothohthotothot. Last song on the album is called When Things Explode, so freaking awesome. And for your listening pleasure, the (I think 'single') Burn My Shadow.

Hit the Lights (Review)

I've decided I am going to start doing reviews. They will go something like this:

Hit the Lights- Skip School, Start Fights

8/10 if numbers mean anything to you
Buy it if my words hold sway with you
pop-punk if genre matters to you
all time low/fall out boy if branding other bands on to bands makes sense to you

ps. i could change the image so that it fits, but its 1am.
